Hopefully I'll do better continuing this blog each week through the entire 2011 season.
I was able to attend the Utah Red-White Game on April 16, 2011. Jordan Wynn didn't play because of shoulder surgery, and I really hope he doesn't go down with an injury this season. Tyler Shreve threw the only touchdown of the game, and both he and Griff Robles really struggled with what seemed to be pretty basic play calling. They were also without a couple of the top receivers. The biggest positive from the offense was the run game. Harvey Langi and John White both looked great, especially considering that there were only 7 offensive lineman that played in the game (playing for both teams).
I think that Utah's running game is going to be really good this year. I do think that if Jordan Wynn is 100% and stays healthy that their passing game is going to be good, too. There were a lot of open receivers that were missed, including Reggie Dunn down the sideline with a couple yards on the nearest defender. At first it was a pretty depressing game, as it all just looked sloppy on both sides of the ball. But after having some time to think about it, I am feeling pretty optimistic about Utah this year. A big reason for that is the running game. It was pretty refreshing to see Utah going under center in a pro-style offense again and moving away from the spread. I still think Utah will go at least 8-4 this year.
